Clinical Trial Lectureship

We co-funded a new Lectureship for Dr Micheala Guglieri to run clinical trials in Newcastle.

Duchenne UK collaborated with 5 UK patient organisations to award a lectureship to Dr Michela Guglieri in partnership with Newcastle University and Newcastle-upon-Tyne Hospitals NHS, to develop and advance clinical trials.

Since our funding was announced in August 2015, Dr Guglieri has delivered seven clinical trials and one natural history study. Dr Guglieri is also the Principal Investigator for a new upcoming study. She is also the Principal investigator for the Phase II clinical trial of Vamorolone, also known as VBP15, a steroid alternative. Duchenne UK co-funded the successful Phase 1 study of Vamorolone.

The award for Dr Guglieri is of £250,000 over five years. It's being matched by Newcastle University to enable Dr Guglieri to develop the clinical trial capacity for DMD at the John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre.
