Cheshire Dash raises more than £112,000 for Duchenne UK

The Cheshire Dash took place in July, it is a 2-day challenge where 90 cyclist rode 200 miles across the beautiful Cheshire countryside AND raised over £112,000 for Duchenne UK.

The event was organised by the Cheshire Flyers on behalf of Transforming Lives Charity.

A wonderful team from the Cheshire Flyers, led by Catriona Marshall, took part in the Duchenne Dash, our annual bike ride from London to Paris, in 2017. They decided to create a spin off event, the Cheshire Dash, to encourage people around Cheshire to join in our mission to End Duchenne.

The event started with Felix (pictured below) leading the riders off the start line. Felix’s family set up Team Felix after he was diagnosed with DMD to help raise money and awareness.

The first day ended with an overnight stay in Keele. Our co-founder Emily Crossley was there to give a speech about the work Duchenne UK is doing and to thank everyone for taking part.

The second day finished with a meal in Goostrey in the heart of Cheshire, with lots of tired cyclist, but a wonderful feeling of camaraderie having completed this very special challenge.

We were especially pleased to have some families affected by DMD taking part including parents, friends and relatives of Mason and Felix.

Here is what some people said about the Cheshire Dash:

“Having done several cycling Sportives charity & non charity ones, it was one of the most enjoyable and well organised rides I have experienced. The whole 2 days were fantastic, (albeit tough in the heat) with lovely weather, great camaraderie, and all for a brilliant cause, well-articulated by Emily in her heartfelt speech on Saturday evening.”

“All the riders were commenting on how amazing it all was from the support, to the food, to the evening to the medical and mechanical support (although those Percy pigs were my highlight :)). All of this meant, without exception, we had an unforgettable experience for an incredible charity.”

“It was such an honour and a pleasure to be involved with the Cheshire Dash. I didn't think I'd make it all the way round…but the team spirit was phenomenal & it just saw me through to complete the whole 200. Something weirdly that I keep getting emotional about. I am sporty but not a cyclist so it was a great challenge to selfishly get me in shape and do something different for a great cause.”

“It was an amazing weekend. I loved every minute. Met some great people. Supported a great cause. Pushed myself well beyond known limits.”

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part.

We would like to especially thank Catriona, Mike, Liz, Lisa and their whole team for organising this wonderful event.

Next year the Cheshire Dash will take place on 22-23rd June 2019.  Email interest to: [email protected]
