The first Duchenne Dip raises £3,000

The first Duchenne Dip, held on June 4th held at Waterfield Leisure Centre in Melton Mowbray, raised an impressive £3,000.  Thirty five young swimmers, aged from 6 to 16, took part in the sponsored event.

Nicki Lygo, organiser of the Dip, who runs The Lygo Family Fund in support of Duchenne UK, says: "The swimmers were so excited and driven that many swam much further than they had pledged to. As a team, they swam way in excess of a 26.2 mile marathon!"

"In the foyer of the pool we played a loop of videos about Duchenne. Lots of people viewed these and were openly moved by them," she adds.

The team also received some great celebrity support messages from Rob Delaney, Charlie Condou, Ran Fiennes and Austin Healey, which were all played on the night.

Nicki plans to make the Duchenne Dip an annual event.

All the underwater pictures taken free on the night were by Rob White & Pash Baker and they can be contacted on marinepix.co.uk.
