Results published from workshop with Psychosocial Project

Our DMD Care UK Psychosocial Project Working Group recently held a workshop to consolidate knowledge and identify key issues in psychiatric prescribing and psychological testing in children and adults with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).

The workshop brought together clinicians and patient representatives from the UK and the Netherlands to discuss a range of issues and found that many patients with DMD and their families feel that they are rarely asked about their psychosocial needs, beyond questions about mood which often occur only as an appointment is ending. Clinicians often report being aware of psychosocial needs, but do not know where to refer the patient or how to best offer support.

Next steps for the working group will be to develop the best standards of care for psychosocial care in people with DMD.
