Managing DMD over Christmas and New Year

Christmas and New Year is an annual break from our weekly routine. Whether that means lively parties or quiet celebrations for you, it’s definitely very different from the other 50 weeks of the year.

We want you to enjoy the holidays and help you manage Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) over them. Here are some things we recommend for the holidays.

Find out your GP practice and pharmacy opening hours

Your GP practice and community pharmacy opening hours are likely to be different from normal.

Find out when they are open so you can order and collect any repeat prescriptions you may need.

Make sure you have enough medicines

We’ve had a few reports of individual pharmacies being slower than usual to supply medicines.

To ensure you have what you need, we recommend that you order any medicines that you need in good time.

You don’t need to order extra medicines, just what you would normally need at this time.

Prepare for emergencies

It’s not likely that you will have an accident or emergency over the holidays, but they can be more serious for people with DMD. It’s important to be prepared for one.

We have guidance on what to do in an emergency and how you can prepare. You can find it here.

Look after yourself

We hope you have a chance to relax and celebrate with your family. You deserve it.

Thank you for all the support you gave us in 2023, and we will work hard for you again in 2024.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone in the DMD community!
