Introduction
Duchenne is a condition that causes muscles to weaken over time. As it progresses, simple things - like opening a door, using a computer, or feeding yourself - can become difficult.
Technology can help. Devices and software designed with the needs of people with Duchenne in mind can remove barriers and give back independence. But right now, there aren’t enough solutions that truly work for our community.
We’re changing that.
What we do
By partnering with engineers, researchers, and people living with Duchenne, we make sure every project is shaped by real experience and delivers real impact.
We have made significant progress on the development of our arm-assist Elevex, and we are designing a new device for stretching the ankle joint.
Our goal is simple: to give people with Duchenne more control, more freedom, and more opportunities to live the life they choose.
Elevex arm assist
Elevex is being developed in partnership with Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK (SMA UK) and the Inclusionaries Lab at the University of Liverpool – and crucially, people with DMD and Spinal muscular atrophy.
Together, we’re combining expertise in engineering, design, and lived experience to create something truly life-changing.
We’re proud that Elevex has already been recognised for its innovation, winning two Collaborate to Innovate Awards in 2023 - including the overall Grand Prix award.
Stretch device for ankles
To make ankle care easier, Duchenne UK is developing Stretch – a better ankle-foot orthosis (AFO), designed with end users and their families.
Building on primary research conducted with the Duchenne community and health care professionals in the UK, the Stretch project aims to develop a new, more comfortable AFO to make managing ankle care easier.
