What is a clinical trial?

Clinical trials are research studies in humans to study whether an experimental treatment works. Not everyone with Duchenne will be able to take part in every study. Each study has specific requirements. Participants will need to meet eligibility criteria which might be based on age, genetic mutation or other factors such as whether you are able to walk or stand.

Participating in clinical trials is a big commitment and every individual and family will have to decide if taking part in a trial is right for them.

Clinical trials and other research studies drive advances in treatment. They can bring forward much needed new treatments and therapies for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and help improve health and quality of life for people with Duchenne.

When a trial is looking for participants, your information helps sites find and contact you. This gives people more opportunity to connect with sites running trials and get involved in studies relevant to them. It also helps sites find and recruit eligible patients and run trials.
